Johnny’s admiring the first printing of Bonnie’s big, plagiarized novel and Trey’s off at the library with the sitter. That panics Chanel, what with Sophia running around. But EJ has a security detail trailing them and Johnny has to run off to a meeting.

Can Amy Get Through to Sophia?

Sophia almost gives her mom a heart attack as Amy walks into her room as she’s packing up. She stuns her mom again by talking and claims she got the help she needed. Poor Amy’s too ecstatic to question things!

But Sophia’s moving anywhere but there. She lays into her mom for treating home like a prison, not learning who Sophia is, not caring what she wanted for life: “Nobody ever listens to me!” Amy begs her to tell her what to do and she’ll do it, but while Sophia appreciates it, it’s too late.

Will Johnny Play Ball With Kate?

Kate’s all business about Stephanie completing her upcoming book proposal, which infuriates Philip. She figures he’s testy because of Vivian’s death — which she doesn’t believe! No one in Alamainia would consent to exhuming her body. (“You asked?!” Philip scoffs.)

Johnny meets with Kate after Philip leaves (in what is clearly Xander and Philip’s office) and she wastes no time in dropping the boom on him about what their legal department found. Bonnie plagiarized and Xander (not Kate, no, no) is insisting on action.

It’s crystal clear how prepared Kate was for supposedly not knowing what was in Bonnie’s book. She just wants a settlement, but Johnny sees the number and balks. He’s not gutting his family company for Titan. He’ll see Kate in court!

Will Gabi Ever Tell Philip?

Gabi gets off the phone with Rafe, who’s still unable to figure out if the divorce papers were valid or not. Philip shows up, worried about his mom’s prediction that Vivian faked her death. Even Gabi kind of, sort of hopes Kate’s right — so she can get answers about Stefan.

Philip laments how much going along with Vivian’s scheme is tanking Titan. And sweet Gabi has faith in him turning this around. It’s not like she had any hand in it!

Stephanie Opens Up to Chanel

Stephanie wakes up to find Owen caressing her face, but we all know it’s just a nightmare. Alex is really caressing her face. Which is still creepy. Don’t do that to someone while they sleep and that goes double with trauma!

Chanel drops in (with leftover balloons from the aborted party) and no one seems to notice how uncomfortable Stephanie is when Alex holds her hand. Luckily, he runs off, leaving Stephanie to open up to Chanel.

She still feels like a wreck, and Chanel tells her everything she’s feeling is OK. She blames herself for finding toxic, abusive relationships. (It’s Salem, not you, Stephanie.) Then she brought Jeremy back to town and ruined his life. Alex is the only good choice she’s made, but she can’t handle being touched by him now. “What if I never stop feeling this way?” Stephanie asks through tears. She will, Chanel promises.

Is This It for Owen?

A cop handcuffs Owen in the interrogation room at Jeremy’s request. Owen’s in full over-the-top campy villain mode as he gloats, but Jeremy snarls that he’ll sue him and the DiMeras. Though Owen has a point about tangling with the DiMeras.

Jeremy moves into threats, promising that he does have a violent temper. Owen taunts him some more and Alex walks in right as Jeremy punches the table: “Go near her again, I will rip you limb from limb!” Alex is happy to wait his turn and when Jeremy walks off in disgust, he steps in to take Owen down.

But Owen knows how to push his buttons, too, saying Alex is no better than him. A sordid, horrible man who treated women like trash. He goes on and on: “You think I don’t deserve Stephanie Johnson? You sure as hell don’t, either.” Alex visibly composes himself and tells Owen to take the deal he heard about: Lifetime in a psychiatric facility. If he gets out, Alex will take care of him.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Gabi thanks Philip for confiding in him, and he hopes she feels the same way with him. (You’re gonna regret that.) Ever since they said the “L” word, they’ve both been thinking about living together. Maybe it’s time!

Amy apologizes for not being a good mother. They can start over. Sophia can take summer classes at University of Chicago. She can have her space, be her own woman. And… Sophia says she’ll stay! It’s tough to tell if Amy’s tears are relief or worry.

Alex approaches Jeremy outside the interrogation room and thanks him, but says to back off of Stephanie. (Guess Owen really got under his skin.) Jeremy insists he just wants Stephanie safe and happy, “If she needs me. I will be there.”
