EJ Said What?! Days of Our Lives May Be Heading Down the Most Surprising Path, Yet!

If there’s one thing that turns out to be true more often than not, it’s the old maxim to never mix business and pleasure. That, however, has never stopped anyone from doing so on Days of Our Lives! And from what we saw, it may be about to happen once again — with EJ and Gwen!
We were, we’ll admit, a bit surprised when we figured out the two were working together. They’d never really gotten along, but necessity does make for strange bedfellows. And those two needed each other. Or at least, EJ needed Gwen’s money and she needed his resources. But somehow, they’ve been making it work, with minimal fighting.
And then Xander showed up, knocking boots with Gwen again. It’s gotten under EJ’s skin quite a bit, which we’ve just been assuming has been because of his hatred for Victor’s heir and the fact that he’s in and out of EJ’s home more often than is ideal. (By which we mean at all.) But then we saw Tuesday’s episode and one line from EJ to Gwen stood out: “For the record, you can do a hell of a lot better than Xander Kiriakis.”

EJ’s comment was, we’re sure, mostly a dig at Xander. But you don’t tell someone that they’re too good for their beau unless there’s a part of you that appreciates them and, dare we say, even respects them? It may be not a romance, but it leaves plenty of room for one to grow — especially in Salem!
Gwen and EJ work well enough together, but they also have plenty of friction. And if we know EJ, nothing gets him going quite like trading insults and backhanded compliments! And there may just be a part of him that enjoys ticking off not just Xander, but Dimitri, too — especially if Gwen gets the Von Leuschner money and EJ can join it to the DiMera fortune!
As for Gwen, if EJ does genuinely develop feelings for her, that’s a major check in the “Plus” column. She’s been burned enough times by Xander to know not to get too tangled up. It’s not a matter of if, but when he goes running back to Sarah and leaves her in the lurch. But that doesn’t mean Gwen’s given up on wanting to be wanted or has moved past her drive to be loved and accepted.
On top of that, EJ and Gwen both have a penchant for underhanded scheming, and it’s always nice when couples can share a hobby together. Well, share a hobby and money. Lots and lots of money. That’s why they’re in business together in the first place — the chance to rake in ungodly amounts of cash by developing and selling a miracle drug. Heck, it’s probably not a coincidence that their first test subject is being held in a tube the color of money!
Judging by Tuesday’s episode, they’re both riding high on their success. And if their drug takes off and they’re investment is the success they’re hoping, the celebration that follows could easily spill out of the living room and into one of the many, many bedrooms in the DiMera mansion.
