EJ tells Rolf that Father would agree that “sacrifices” like Stephanie and Jeremy are for the greater good. But they need to move Lexie — which Dr. Rolf doesn’t like! Zat vould jeopardize ze project! Regardless, EJ sends Rolf back down into the tunnels to the hospital while he plays with his special ring.

Paulina Warns EJ

Paulina then barges in to tell EJ about the police threat, since they traced Stephanie’s 911 call to the area. EJ plays dumb. Whaaaat? You don’t say! Paulina believes him — reluctantly — when he insists he’s got nothing to do with Stephanie.

And that’s when EJ can’t help turning the screws about the possibility of Lexie waking — and how Paulina will do just fine if Abe leaves her. She’s wealthy and attractive, she can find a nice new man! Paulina sputters in fury for a bit, then tells EJ that he’s a “soulless parasite who feeds off of other people’s misery” and leaves wreckage behind. Correct!

Cat and Rafe Form a Plan

Cat gets herself and Kayla into the locked lab, only to find it empty. They’re crushed, but Cat seems very interested in the medicine cabinet. Rafe and Steve show up in record time as they search, and Steve takes a heartbroken Kayla away, conveniently giving Cat the chance to tell Rafe that the lab is a lot smaller than the initial layout.

Rafe sends Cat off to distract EJ with the admonishment to stop buying his kind and generous act. They spend way too much time debating how evil EJ is (Spoiler alert: He’s getting worse every day) and not enough time searching, but sure. Once she leaves, Rafe goes to get the lab blueprint in EJ’s office.

Can Jeremy Get Free?

Jeremy uses his free hand to ungag himself and Stephanie. He wants to get her free, but she insists one of them has to get out for help, and that someone is him. First, though, they have to get the door open, so Stephanie lets him have her bobby pins to pick the lock. (She also researched that for her book, which is so convenient!)

Jeremy unlocks his other handcuff and gets to work on the door. But that doesn’t work, so he uses the last bobby pin to get Stephanie free.

Will Steve Get Owen to Talk?

Alex and Brady are talking over the possibilities of the kidnapper when Owen walks through the square to glare at them. The kidnapper slinks away when he hears Brady telling Alex (who doesn’t want to hear any theory but Jeremy) about Owen.

Alex insists Jeremy is their guy, and he’s going to kill him. They get to the hospital where Rafe grabs Alex, while Steve tells Brady and Kayla that Jada found that Owen has been staying at a motel in town. He just checked out, so they need to move fast.

Brady’s got an idea, so he takes Steve to the mortuary, where they spot Owen before they even get inside. (You know, where they’d need a mortuary set.) Steve grabs the kidnapper and demands to know what he did with Stephanie.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Cat rushes into the DiMera mansion and distracts EJ by first going faux-hysterical, demanding to know if he had anything to do with Stephanie. Then, after he calmly assures her he didn’t and hinting that he’d like to be more than friends, Cat grabs him and kisses him.

Jeremy undoes Stephanie’s handcuffs, then gets back to work on the door. She’s in rough shape, though, so she should pass out any second, just in time for… there we go! Jeremy tries warming her up, wrapping his arms around her, as Rafe and Alex split up to search the two rooms.

Rafe, meanwhile, shows Alex the blueprints, then pontificates for a bit while Alex finds the secret entrance in .5 seconds. Rafe bursts into the tube room — “Dios mio!” — while Alex bursts in to find Jeremy cradling Stephanie. That won’t end well!
