The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that we have to ask: Is Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) setting a trap for Victor Newman (Eric Braeden)? Could Cane be offering up some blackmail bait that’s all part of the plan?

Cane managed to hide behind his Aristotle Dumas persona for six years, so he’s a smart guy who can pull off elaborate schemes.

Secrecy and trickery are the norm for Cane at this point.

That’s why it’s suspicious for Cane to let Victor back him into an extortion corner.

In Y&R’s August 25 episode, Victor will threaten to expose Colin Atkinson’s (Tristan Rogers) final con on the elderly woman who previously owned the chateau and vineyard.

Colin supposedly convinced her to leave everything to him in the will and then helped Cane build his Arabesque empire, so Victor will think he’s got Cane right where he wants him.

Victor will plan to take the evidence to the press and put it all out there unless Cane partners with him against Jabot.

However, Cane’s reaction to Victor’s threat will be a little strange.

After Victor tells Cane that it’s his call, Cane will calmly suggest that it seems like he doesn’t have much of a choice.

Victor will get smug and reply that he knew Cane would see reason, but something feels a bit off here.

What if Cane predicted this and even wanted Victor to uncover that information?

Maybe Cane is trying to give Victor the illusion of being all powerful and in control.

Cane might be lulling Victor into a false sense of security and making himself seem like he’s not a real threat.

It could be part of Cane’s strategy to weaken Victor’s defense against him in the end.

What better way to pull off a surprise attack than by making your enemy believe they’ve got the advantage?

Cane was very meticulous when it came to crafting his Aristotle Dumas identity. This isn’t someone sloppy who wouldn’t know about Colin’s alleged last con job.

Perhaps Cane will only pretend to be surprised and then act like he’s been forced into this alliance.

In reality, Cane might’ve left a trail for Victor to follow and assumed he’d take this blackmail bait.

Y&R fans can expect Cane to turn to Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) for help soon, so we’ll see how she fits in this whole mess.

Cane may have a way to protect himself against Victor, especially if the proof was planted and not exactly what it seems to be.
