In the morning, after everyone else has left, Cat comes to Rafe’s house to debrief the gala. Which doesn’t include much since she ran into Leo outside the lab, derailing her recon efforts. However, she did remember being in the same rehab facility as EJ and reading to him. She believes he’s so nice to her because he subconsciously knows about their connection, which presents an opportunity. However, Rafe nixes her idea of getting close to him romantically. She’ll come up with something else.

Xander and Sarah Break the Cycle

Sarah gives Brady and Rachel a reassuring update about Marlena at the hospital. Rachel remembers Brady and Sarah hugging and curtly excusing herself for the bathroom. As Sarah asks what she can do to help with Brady’s daughter, Xander approaches. He thanks Brady for their talk. It gave him the final push to do the right thing: He signed the divorce papers.

After Brady leaves, Xander tells Sarah this is the first step in breaking their cycle of pain for Victoria’s sake. Since he’s not the man she and Victoria need, he’s setting her free. However, he’ll never love anyone else the way he loves her. An emotionally conflicted Sarah signs the papers.

Rachel Learns A Long-Held Secret

At home, a sullen Rachel asks if Brady is falling in love with Sarah. Brady insists they’re just friends and wonders if that’s why she’s been so quiet. Rachel says she has other things to worry about, like Susan telling her she puts too much stress on Grandma Marlena. Is that why she’s sick? Brady counters that she’s a big reason why Marlena wants to get better. After more words of love and support, Brady goes to get something to drink.

Alone, Rachel searches Sarah’s name online and finds an article about how Sarah kidnapped her after believing Rachel was her baby for a year. She then reads an article about how Sarah was felled by a Sweet Bits scone.

Later, Rachel overhears Brady consoling Sarah on the phone about her divorce. Sarah says it’s what she wanted, but she’s a mess. Brady is there for her if she needs him. Rachel returns to the laptop and reads that Sarah was given a scone containing pistachio milk, which she’s allergic to.

Chad Makes a Desperate Move

Jennifer storms out of the Horton living room when Chad enters, wanting to talk. Jeremy (wearing a black leather jacket… is he the stalker?) joins him with words of support. However, Chad’s appreciation turns to outrage when Jeremy advises him to stay somewhere else for a few days to let things cool off. “You want me to move out?!” Jeremy suggests it might take the stress off Thomas. As Chad stews, Charlotte prances in, and Chad wraps her up in a big hug.

Jennifer meets Justin at the mansion about her custody suit. Knowing how ugly things could get, Justin asks if she’s sure she wants to go through this. Jennifer states she’s doing this for Abigail’s children, who have lost so much. She won’t allow them to lose anything more. “What about losing their father?” Justin asks. Jennifer claims Chad has changed. He no longer puts his kids’ needs first. He wonders if she’s thought about how Chad will react if they lose. “We can’t lose,” Jennifer firmly states.

As Chad gushes over Charlotte’s turkey drawings, Jennifer returns, interrupting their close moment. Alone with Chad, she presents her petition for custody. Chad gravely studies the papers and declares he’ll see her in court. “I’m not going to let you take my kids.”

Jeremy returns to Jennifer and tells her she’s making a mistake. He just heard Chad saying goodbye to the kids, but Thomas wouldn’t even open the door. It’s heartbreaking. Jennifer knows how much Chad loves his children, but she doesn’t trust his judgment. She won’t risk her grandchildren getting hurt again.

In the Square, Cat sees Chad heading for the Salem Inn with a bag. He tells her Jennifer is suing him for custody, but he can’t talk and turns to the hotel.
