Say It Isn’t So: General Hospital Is Rewriting History… Again!

Among the things we love about General Hospital is that it is a continuing drama. What happened yesterday impacts what happens today and what will happen thereafter. Or it’s supposed to, anyway. Currently, the show is saying, in essence, “Forget what we already told you and just focus on what we’re telling you now.”

And our response? Nope. Sorry. Can’t do it. Especially right after the soap rewrote history to make Sasha Robert and Holly’s daughter, we’ve gotta, we’ve just gotta cry foul over the decision to suddenly make Brook Lynn an old pal of Dante and Cody’s from their days at summer camp.

Now, you could argue that the twist might make sense because we didn’t see Brook Lynn at summer camp, so we have no idea with whom she might have been hanging out. But you’d be wrong to defend this nonsense: When Cody landed in Port Charles and met Brook Lynn, they didn’t know each other. We saw it.

Making matters worse is the reason that many a fan believes General Hospital is giving Brook Lynn a long-ago history with Dante and Cody: to make Gio her surprise son. This is a “Please, no, make it stop!” scenario for a number of reasons. First of all, while we’d love to see Brook Lynn and Chase start a family, we’d prefer that they get to do so together, from scratch.

Second of all, there is no reason in the world why Brook Lynn would not have held onto her baby. Even if she was going to let it be raised by her mom Lois, the Quartermaines or possible grandma Olivia, Brook Lynn wouldn’t have just let go of her offspring. Thirdly, since Gio hasn’t exactly set Port Charles on fire, is there really any point to giving him deep family ties in town?

What could still save this storyline is the possibility that General Hospital is pulling a fast one on us, and Gio isn’t really Brook Lynn’s son but Lois’ BFF Brenda’s. That would explain why Lois is running around looking like she knows something no one else does. And if Brenda had to give up lil’ Alec and let him be renamed Gio to protect him from his late father’s diabolical family, the Janáčeks, that would make sense.

Of course, even that reveal wouldn’t fix the problem of “Wait, Brook Lynn was camp buddies with Dante and Cody?!?” But on the plus side, we might get Vanessa Marcil back as Brenda for a while.
