What’s up with Josh Kelly’s General Hospital status change? He used to be listed in the ABC soap’s closing credits among the on-contract actors in the cast. And now? Erm, nope. Not so much.

Well, it turns out that Cody’s portrayer asked to be dropped to recurring.

As the actor explained to Soap Opera Digest, he requested to be bumped from contract status as he has other irons in the fire — among them a sequel to this summer’s The Workout and a movie with girlfriend Chloe Lanier (ex-Nelle). The show would surely try to accommodate his work on those projects, but at the end of the day, “I just wouldn’t be able to do that if I was on contract… and I wouldn’t expect the show to work around my schedule.”

But to be clear, the One Life to Live veteran remains more than committed to General Hospital, which has tied Cody to a core family (the Scorpios) and paired him with one great leading lady (Ava) after another (Molly) after another (Sasha). “I would like to stay here forever,” Kelly said. “I was just looking to have a little more flexibility” scheduling-wise.

Outside of daytime, Kelly was a regular on Lifetime’s UnREAL, appeared on Ugly Betty and True Blood, and hit the big screen in two Transformers movies. He re-teamed with former One Life to Live boss Frank Valentini when he joined the General Hospital cast in 2022 as Mac’s surprise son.
