General Hospital: Worst Storylines of 2025 – Fans Absolutely HATED These Disasters!

A look back at the General Hospital very worst storylines this year, including Dante Falconeri‘s (Dominic Zamprogna) disgust, Lucky Spencer’s (Jonathan Jackson) bizarre revolving door return, and so much more.

We’re going to dig into GH’s 2025 bad plots, ranking from lame to downright laughable.

General Hospital: Dante vs. Gio

All right, number one, the first horrible storyline we got to talk about is Dante hating on Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) both before and after he found out about their family ties as father and son. At first, it was contrived and then later to me, it got contemptible. So, Dante and Gio have gotten along great for two decades. They’d known each other his whole life. And this was before the big rewrite that General Hospital did to make them father and son. Which is interesting. That’s not really the issue here. It’s the way Dante has behaved.

Because all of a sudden, right before the big reveal, Rocco Falconeri (Finn Frances Carr) got alcohol poisoning at a party and Dante unreasonably blamed Gio. Mind you, it was definitely not his fault. He actually helped Rocco and probably saved him, but it was a very clumsily written attempt to deliberately pit Dante and Gio against each other just before the paternity reveal. This is a repeat thing GH has done so many times over the years, which makes it even worse and more contrived.

General Hospital: Worst Storylines of 2025 – What Fans HATED! | Soap Dirt

GH Repeats Overdone Plot

They have a parent and child hate each other and then they reveal that they are parent and child. They did it with Dante and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). They did it with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen). They did it with Carly Corinthos Spencer (Laura Wright) and Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman).

Well, I mean, Carly knew, but Bobbie didn’t know. But it’s a textbook GH repeat plot. So, Dante later tried to apologize and reconnect with Gio after he found out that he was his son with Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton). And then GH turned around and had Dante hating Gio again because of Hank Dalton’s (Daniel Goddard) lab break-in. And yeah, I will agree that was a little more Gio’s fault.

But Rocco went into the lab on his own after Gio told him, “Don’t do anything. Stand down.” And then Dante made it worse, saying Rocco cannot see Gio. So now they’re trying to make peace for Rocco’s sake. And I’m just hoping General Hospital doesn’t pit Dante and Gio against each other again. We’ve had enough. On the plus side, at least Dante didn’t shoot Gio like Sonny did him. There’s that. But it’s still very contrived and repetitive. Nothing new there to see and just unlikable on Dante’s behalf.

Sonny Corinthos & Justine Turner: Will This Recycled Law Enforcement Romance Finally Be Different?

Number two on our bad plot list is Sonny and Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) and their flirty little thing. Again, it’s a repeat plot with General Hospital having Sonny flirt and charm another woman in law enforcement. It has been done many times over the years. It never goes well. Fans always hate it and they’re cranking it out again. Recently, it looked like Sonny was starting to win Justine over and that he was proving to her he’s not all bad. And it looked like that she was starting to see Sonny differently, especially when Justine (Nazneen Contractor) showed up at Sonny’s house looking for help with her car that night.

And then Justine met Donna Corinthos (Scarlett Spears), who’s adorable. Then she overheard Drew Cain Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) blackmailing Sonny. And it looked like Justine (Nazneen Contractor) was genuinely warming up to Sonny. But then recently, Justine told Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) she’s letting Sonny think that he’s charming her, but Justine is still plotting to take him down. So, it’s the same old storyline yet again. I do expect Sonny may win her over and they have a bad romance. We’ll see.

This Justine plot will only be fresh if she really does not fall for Sonny and actually does file charges against him. Otherwise, it’s same old, same old, same old. Now, in the end, we know Justine is not going to put Sonny behind bars at all, or if she does, not for long. Most likely though, Justine will fall for the dimples, or things will just fizzle out and fall flat, and they’ll let this plot fall by the wayside, and there was no point to it in the first place. This is a bad plot that’s going to continue into 2026.

Jonathan Jackson’s Pointless Return as Lucky Spencer: A Disappointment for GH Fans

All right, number three on our list is Lucky’s surprise return and abrupt exit. It made Jonathan Jackson’s return absolutely pointless. I mean, fans were excited when he came back as Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) after a 13-year absence. Some fans, some didn’t want him back because they didn’t like the way that he treated Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst). So, there was this all this hoopla and a big roll out about Jonathan Jackson coming back and promises of big drama.

And then Lucky reconnected with Elizabeth, which was exciting because she hasn’t had a front burner storyline of her own in years. And then Lucky proposed to Elizabeth, but she couldn’t do it because she was worried Lucky can’t settle down in Port Charles. Sure enough, he bailed and he left Port Chuck. And I do understand as a person, as an actor, why Jonathan Jackson came to General Hospital and then why he left. He wanted the gig.

He wanted the regular paycheck, but he and his family live in Tennessee. He didn’t want to move back to California. And in the end, Jonathan Jackson couldn’t handle the back and forth and working so far from home. So, I’m not blaming the actor at all. But in the end, Lucky’s returned turned out to be one of the worst storylines of 2025 because it was for nothing. Nothing came of it except maybe some closure between Lucky and Elizabeth. And now she’s back to being a side character, which absolutely stinks.

Cody Bell’s Questionable Seduction Scheme: A Low Point for General Hospital Characters

All right, next on our list, number four, is Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) being paid to seduce Ava Jerome (Maura West). And I think this annoyed GH fans because Cody and Molly were starting to catch feelings for each other. But not even so much that. It was a scheme cooked up by Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) because of her endless hatred for Ava. And when they recast the character of Kristina, she has been written as extremely unlikable.

Fans were sick and tired of Kristina and also annoyed that they drag Cody back into being a hustler out for a quick buck. It just didn’t make sense. Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) pays him well. He’s happy at the Quartermaines. He and Mac Scorpio (John J. York) get along and he has a new family that loves him. So, didn’t make any sense for Cody to risk it. So, Kristina tempting him with a big payday was icky. It was basically male prostitution.

Plus, fans hated that Kristina was hurting Molly again by paying Cody to get close to Ava when Kristina knew Molly’s heart was on the line. Thankfully, Cody came to his senses. And honestly, Kristina is a lot more tolerable now that she, Ava, and Alexis Davis held Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) hostage and bonded over that. And Cody and Molly are finally on the right track. So, yay. But the Kristina Cody plot was still awful.

General Hospital: Drew Cain Quartermaine(Cameron Mathison) - Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna)

Drew Kaine’s Villain Arc: Why Fans Think He’s GH’s Worst Character of 2025

All right, number five on our list, last but definitely not least, the absolute worst plot on General Hospital this past year was any and everything to do with Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). Every single plot he’s in is terrible, except for the one where he got shot. And the reason that that one actually is terrible as well is because fans were so disappointed he didn’t die. If he had, I might be saying this was one of the best plots. And of course, this is about the character, not the actor. Cameron Mathison is a great actor. That’s why fans hate Drew so much because Cameron plays the villain so well. So, hats off to him.

But General Hospital has warped the character of Drew to be so awful and just so unlikable. When GH first paired him with Willow, that was the beginning of the end for Drew. It made him irredeemable starting with the kiss Fourth of July last year. And you know, Drew’s gone from troubled to downright repulsive and unhinged. He screwed over Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner).

He tried to bulldoze the Quartermaine crypt. He watched Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) having a coronary and wouldn’t help. He stole Tracy’s heirlooms. There’s no bringing Drew back from what he’s done. Unless we find out he’s under mind control by Peter August (Wes Ramsey) or Faison (Anders Hove) or a random Cassadine. Drew’s plots are by far the worst storylines of 2025.

From Beloved Returns to Heartfelt Memorials: The Best General Hospital Plots of the Year

And in case you’re wondering what plots I actually liked, here’s a rundown. I loved Erika Slezak as Ronnie Bard (Erika Slezak) and everything that went with it. I love Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) coming back and working with Carly to destroy Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna). I also liked that they resurrected Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), although I don’t like Rocco calling her “other mother.”

But then again, teens are angsty that way. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson)’s passing I thought was handling very well, as was her memorial. And last, I love, love, love Recast Michael (Rory Gibson). I like Chad Duell, but Rory Gibson is a revelation as Michael. I loved the actor on Young and the Restless, but they never gave him enough airtime, and he is burning down the walls at General Hospital. Drop your comments here on your best and worst plots of the year.
