The big day is finally here for Days of Our Lives‘ Jada and Rafe. Kind of. Since Rafe isn’t really Rafe, but Arnold. Who cousin Javi thinks cheated on his bride-to-be. And the real Rafe just escaped EJ’s clutches. And, well, it’s all one big mess — as weddings usually are in Salem!

Still, there’s plenty of joy and sweetness to be found in it, in no small part thanks to the close bonds of those involved, and the generational love on display on our screens. Jada’s got her best friend, Stephanie, by her side, and Steph’s dad walking her down the aisle. Steve’s something of a father figure, since he and Jada’s father, the late Marcus Hunter were best friends four decades ago. It’s a touching legacy connection that only soap opera fans ever really get to see.

Sadly, Richard Biggs who played Marcus Hunter also passed away, but the wedding moment wasn’t lost on Stephen Nichols. He took to Instagram to share a few Days of Our Lives photos from across the decades, and write a beautiful note to those who’ve come before.

“What a gift it is to get play on the legacy of this friendship,” he wrote. “Nearly 37 years ago, Steve’s best friend Marcus Hunter, stood beside him on his wedding day as best man. This week, he gets to bring the moment full circle as he walks Marcus’s daughter, Jada Hunter, down the aisle.”

Nichols went on to share that it was “a joy” to “work with the late Richard Biggs, and it’s so cool that his legacy lives on with the beautiful and talented Elia Cantu.”

“Beautiful,” Cantu replied in the comments. “Such a joy working with you.”

Unsurprisingly, the post was flooded with nostalgic viewers commenting on it, recalling the friendship between Marcus and Steve, the storylines and trouble they always seemed to get into and how lucky Days of Our Lives viewers are to have so many families carry on in Salem generation after generation. It truly is a magical moment.

So whatever happens in this wedding and the real one that we’re sure is coming along eventually, we can’t help but treasure this moment tying the bonds of the past to the present and beyond.
