Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers hint that fans may learn the real reason for Sydney DiMera’s (previously played by Evelyn Stephenson) panic attacks. Is Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and EJ DiMera’s (Dan Feuerriegel) daughter returning to Salem?

EJ recently received a troubling phone call from Sydney, who’s been freaking out about her father’s kidnapping ordeal.

Although EJ is safe now, Sydney is struggling with panic attacks and needs to see him with her own eyes.

As a result, EJ decided to fly to Italy and reassure Sydney in person. DOOL writers are accomplishing multiple goals through this visit, so let’s talk about those.

For starters, this gets EJ out of town for a bit, which is allowing Gwen von Leuschner (Emily O’Brien) to run amok and allow Dimitri von Leuschner (Peter Porte) back into the picture.

Gwen knows EJ won’t approve, but she’d rather ask him to forgive her later than ask for permission that would’ve been denied anyway.

Of course, EJ’s time away will also give Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) and Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) more of a chance to snoop.

Rafe and Cat still want answers about what EJ’s up to in the new hospital wing, so it’ll be easier to dig without him around.

However, EJ could’ve just as easily been called away on some important business related to his secret project, the hospital or even DiMera Enterprises.

The fact that Days writers specifically chose to make this visit about Sydney is interesting.

That’s especially true since we’ve already been hearing rumblings about a potential Sydney recast showing up at some point.

Even if EJ doesn’t bring Sydney home following this trip, they may strengthen their bond ahead of her eventual return to Salem.

That might be the real reason for Sydney’s panic attacks and these mentions of her that are popping up out of the blue.

Days needs to establish EJ as more of a doting father if Sydney’s ultimately going to ditch Sami to come live with her dad.

It’s even possible that there’s more to the story of what’s bothering Sydney.

Does Sydney not approve of Sami’s new fiancé, Dante Vitali, and his family’s mafia ties? Could that be sparking some panic as well?

Whatever the case, Sydney’s name is suddenly coming up a lot.

Rafe even talked to Cat about raising Sydney when she was his stepdaughter, so Days may be laying the groundwork to continue their bond, too.
