Days of Our Lives brings Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera (Peter Porte) back to Salem, he is fit to be tied over the awful antics of his dear wife, Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien). I do suspect Dimitri is going to try and make good on his threats against her.
Man, was I excited when sexy Peter Porte reprised his role as Dimitri and returned to our screens. He came to Salem to reunite with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), only to find out Gwen did her best to ruin both their lives.
Dimitri’s Shocking Return to Days of Our Lives and the Mystery of the Breakup Letter
All right, so Dimitri’s return shocked newlyweds Leo Stark and Javi Hernandez (Al Calderon) like two minutes after they said “I do.” Of course, Dimitri arrived in Salem just as the happy couple was about to pose for their wedding photos. Leo and Javi were stunned to see Dimitri walk up on them in a suit. He was looking super handsome. I like the longer hair he’s rocking.
It’s a good look—super sexy. Anyway, Leo was especially shocked since Dimitri broke off their long-distance relationship. He did so in a letter saying that he had hooked up with a prison hottie, fell in love with him, and didn’t want to see Leo again. But then Dimitri absolutely shocked Leo by saying he didn’t write the letter. He doesn’t even know what letter Leo is talking about.
Gwen Rizczech’s Motive for Breaking Leo Stark’s Heart on DOOL
Dimitri didn’t have to look too far to figure out who wrote the breakup letter. Of course, his darling wife Gwen had the means, the motive, and the opportunity to break Leo’s heart. Gwen despises Leo and Dimitri both for their betrayal. I mean, I get why she did it. I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same thing myself given those bizarre circumstances.
In her mind, it’s like, why should Dimitri and Leo get a happily ever after? Her best friend cheated with her husband when Gwen had been Leo’s best friend for years. Dimitri set Gwen up for heartbreak just so he could get a big fat payday. The guys kind of had it coming. Javi knew that Leo had unfinished business after seeing his ex, Dimitri.
He told Leo to go hash things out with Dimitri and then said that Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) needed to hold off filing their marriage license. Marlena said they have 10 days to file it to make the marriage legal, so time is of the essence. Meanwhile, Leo turned to Marlena to talk things out, and she suggested that Leo let his heart guide him.
Gwen’s Plan to Expose Leo and Protect Javi Hernandez
Meanwhile, Gwen is upset that Dimitri didn’t show up to the wedding in time to interrupt it before it got to “I do.” Gwen doesn’t have any grudge against Javi. She honestly thinks she’s doing Javi a favor by showing him who Leo really is.
In her mind, she thinks Leo will inevitably betray Javi and break his heart like he did to her, ruining years of friendship just to hook up with some hot guy. In that aspect, Gwen has rationalized it as doing some kind of favor to Javi.
Spoilers for later this week say that Leo does prove his love for Javi. We know Dimitri is going to kiss Leo at the DiMera mansion, but I think after that smooch, Leo is going to dump Dimitri once and for all.
A Gilded Cage: Dimitri’s Kidnapping and the Alamanian Prison on Days of Our Lives
That rejection is going to absolutely infuriate Dimitri because he still loves Leo and thought they were forever. Gwen kidnapped him, broke up with Leo on his behalf, and has been spending his money for months while he was stashed in Alamainia and kept in posh imprisonment.
It was a gilded cage for the beautiful beast that Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera is. In addition to being hot, the man is dangerous, and Gwen knows that. You may remember also that EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) is Gwen’s partner in crime regarding Dimitri’s kidnapping.
That’s why she’s invested so heavily in EJ’s secret lab. In a confrontation at the DiMera mansion, Dimitri told Gwen he wants a divorce. Dimitri claimed he only needed to marry a woman by the time he turned 40, and he told Gwen that nothing in the terms of the codicil says he has to stay married. However, he may be lying.
The DiMera Mansion Showdown and the Fortune Codicil on Days
Dimitri demanded a divorce, but that isn’t going to work for Gwen because she wants to keep his money. Plus, who knows how much of it she’s already spent on that secret lab? She’s waiting to get a return on the investment.
If Dimitri does try and divorce her, I could see Gwen stalling, contesting it, or demanding huge alimony payments. Gwen told Dimitri, “Get out of the mansion, go crawl into a room at the Salem Inn with or near Leo.” But Dimitri says since he’s a DiMera, he’s going to stay in his family home.
He doesn’t think his uncle EJ will mind him staying. Dimitri is very wrong about that. Gwen is still furious over Dimitri and Leo humiliating her. I think, honestly, Gwen’s angrier at Leo than Dimitri in the end. She’s more hurt by Leo’s betrayal.
Dimitri’s Threats and the Shadow of Megan Hathaway
Dimitri was threatening to prosecute Gwen for kidnapping, but he’s got no proof and she’s denying that she did it. Then Dimitri threatened to contact the ISA. However, he double-crossed the agency when he was lying and trying to steal the gemstones for the Alamanian peacock.
The bottom line is that the ISA is not a friend to Dimitri. His mom, Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson), can’t come back to Salem or she’ll be arrested on sight, but he may call her to ask for advice on how to deal with Gwen.
Dimitri wants Gwen to pay one way or another, literally and figuratively. If Dimitri can’t prove that Gwen kidnapped him, he’s going to go looking for revenge another way. There is a chance his mom tells him he can’t divorce Gwen because it would be bad for him or would break the codicil. If that’s the case, Dimitri might decide it’s better to be a grieving widower than an unhappy, angry husband.
Will Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera Plot to Kill Gwen Rizczech?
If you remember, Dimitri insisted he was going to stay at the DiMera mansion. He told Gwen he’d stay in his family’s house “even if it kills us.” So the question is, would Dimitri really go to such lengths to get revenge against Gwen and get his fortune out of her greedy hands? Yeah, probably.
I could see Dimitri plotting to kill Gwen if his other avenues of revenge don’t work out. Plus, Dimitri is going to be stunned if he thinks EJ is going to help him. He has no idea that his uncle helped arrange his kidnapping. Once he finds that out, Dimitri may also target EJ on top of Gwen on Days of our Lives.
Dangerous Alliances: Kristen DiMera and Gwen Rizczech Plot Their Revenge on Days of Our Lives
That probably won’t work out well for Dimitri. It’s better for EJ if Dimitri dies and Gwen keeps the fortune as the grieving widow so she can keep bankrolling the secret lab. Also, Gwen is soon going to get another partner in crime because Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) is back home at the mansion soon. She and Gwen are going to be toasting to them both getting what they want. For Kristen, that’s revenge on EJ. For Gwen, it’s revenge on Dimitri.
With those two plotting, all the guys better watch out. So, the big question: would Dimitri actually try and kill Gwen? I think so. Don’t forget Dimitri was going to murder Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) and Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash) in cold blood until Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) shot him in the back and stopped him. We know Dimitri’s capable of murder, and he really, really hates Gwen right now.
