On today’s Days of Our Lives, Doug asks Holly what she’s doing at the Horton house, and she insists they need to talk about his feelings. She makes it clear she doesn’t share her feelings. She loves her boyfriend so much. Friends are all they can ever be. Doug agrees, saying he’s started moving on.

That taken care of, they move on to the next problem: Getting the necklace back for Julie. Provided Leo can get the guy he sold it to to sell it back. Holly says they can put the pressure on Leo together; Tate’s busy.

Tate Faces Two Crises

Out in the square, Tate and Sophia lay out a few ground rules to Johnny and Chanel before the lunch with Mrs. Choi. The DiMeras don’t love all the lies Amy heard about them, but… they’re ready to be parents and going through more conventional means takes too long. So they’re in.

Johnny and Chanel race off back home to get set up and get their stories straight, leaving Tate to assure Sophia that she’s not alone in this. She has him. Sophia grins, thanks him and goes to “round up” her mom. Holly and Doug then head out to the square, where she reassures him that they’ll get Julie’s necklace back, holding his hands and looking into his eyes, when Tate walks over with a Sweet Bits box. “What’s going on here?”

Holly says they were just talking about “nothing” just supporting Doug as a friend, but Tate demands to know what was happening. Doug says it’s time to tell the truth. “About everything.” So he lays out the stolen necklace (without names), but Tate jumps right to “so you’re a thief” and though he has to run off, he says he wants to talk to Holly about this later. Alone.

After he’s gone, Doug says he wouldn’t ask Holly to lie to Tate, but now the question is whether her boyfriend will rat him out.

Gabi and Jada Go After EJ

At the hospital, Gabi and Jada rip into the lab report from Arnold, confirming that “whoever I plucked that hair from, isn’t related to me.” Rafe never left Jada or framed her. They’re both stunned as they realize their worst fears were true, though Jada’s relieved they never shared a bed. But the one problem is that while that man isn’t Rafe, it doesn’t prove he’s Arnold.

They both kick themselves for not figuring this out on their own but, as Jada says, Rafe needs their help. Gabi starts to panic, worrying that her brother might not even be alive, but Jada assures her they’ll find Rafe together. Gabi asks for time alone with Arnold and he’ll beg for mercy and tell her everything. No, Jada says, that’ll screw up the legal side, so they decide to go through EJ. Jada flashed back to finding EJ in the tunnels, realizing she’d heard Rafe and not workers.

EJ and Paulina Face Off

EJ’s home, on the phone with Kristen talking about how they’re about to get off with all their crimes, thanks to Rafe’s amnesia and Ava being talked into keeping her mouth shut. Just as he’s gloating to himself, Paulina shows up at the door. She’s given more thought to his Valentine’s Day offer, saying he’s not wrong about the optics of Jada and Belle.

But there’s no way in hell she’s appointing him as DA, “whose ass is going straight to prison.” EJ laughs it off, saying he’s not going anywhere, denying everything Paulina threw at him, from Ava to Rafe, Arnold and Jada. “You didn’t have to like me, you just had to let me do my job.” He threatens Paulina’s reelection chances and says when this all blows up, she’ll beg him to come back.

Johnny and Chanel get home, giving themselves a pep talk about just showing Mrs. Choi that they’re a loving, happy family, only to walk into Paulina yelling at EJ to go straight to hell. Johnny and Chanel want to know what’s going on, then shut their parents down saying Amy Choi is on her way over and they need to make a good impression.

The Chois Meet the DiMeras

They ask both parents to stick around and convince Mrs. Choi they have “strong family values” — leading EJ and Paulina to take a few more shots before Chanel yells at them to act like adults for one lunch. They go upstairs to get ready, leaving EJ and Paulina to gripe some more just as Sophia arrives with her mom.

Introductions all around, Amy knows Paulina and says she was friendly with EJ’s wife, Nicole, seeing as how Holly and Sophia were friends. “Will she be joining us?” Oops, EJ and her got a divorce and she moved to Paris, leaving him for another man, “a defrocked priest, if you can imagine.”

Paulina steers the conversation away from the topic, just as Johnny gets down to reassures Amy he and Chanel won’t be heading for the same place as EJ and Nicole. Then Chanel walks in, wearing a giant cross, looking like a ‘50s church lady. She demurely serves finger food, politely telling Amy she doesn’t know the recipe, they have a staff of people in the kitchen.

Tate runs in, apologizing for being late and stopping cold when he sees the DiMeras and Paulina all looking like a Stepford family. He brought treats from Chanel’s bakery, but Amy doesn’t love the name. Double entendres are icky. Chanel plays innocent: “It never even crossed my mind!” Things get weird.

EJ asks if he can get Amy a drink — water. Just water. She asks about EJ’s religiosity. “My mother’s quite devout.” And his father: “Nothing’s more important to him… than eternal life.” Just as things are going great. Gabi and Jada barge in.

“Where the hell is my brother, you sick son of a bitch?!” Everyone freezes. Sophia nervously asks what’s happening. “No clue,” Tate replies, “but this can not be good.” EJ tells the ladies they have a lot of nerve as they demand to know where Rafe is and lay out the kidnapping, Arnold double, etc. in front of the Chois.

Johnny pulls his dad aside, begging his dad to know he didn’t have anything to do with this. Jada asks Johnny to escort her to the tunnels and Amy? “Good heavens. What is going on here?” EJ tries getting Johnny on his side, but he escorts Jada down into the tunnels anyway.

EJ growls that Jada and Gabi will be leaving soon and apologizing. Johnny returns after showing Jada down, telling his dad that if he had anything to do with the man who raped my mother, “there will be hell to pay.”

Johnny Threatens EJ

In the show’s final moments, Holly assures Doug he can trust Tate, he can keep a secret. Doug points out that Tate keeps catching them alone, so why would he trust Doug? Holly shrugs it off, saying Tate’s too busy with Mrs. Choi.

In the DiMera mansion everyone sits awkwardly upstairs as Gabi paces. Just as Johnny’s about to check on Jada, she comes back up saying there was no sign of Rafe. So EJ throws them out with the two threatening him with prison for the rest of his life. “More cookies anyone?” Chanel cheerily asks. No one says a word.

Amy drags her daughter and Tate out of there, with Paulina’s attempts at damage control going nowhere. Chanel tears up, realizing there’s no way they’ll be able to adopt the baby now. Outside, Amy shuts the kids’ attempt to convince her this was a misunderstanding.

Inside, Johnny yells at his dad for ruining his chances to adopt, and doesn’t believe his dad when he says he had nothing to do with Rafe. But then EJ plays dumb “realizing” the man he hired to go after Jada must have been Arnold… How shocking! “So that’s your story, huh?” Johnny asks. He vows that if he finds out EJ’s lying about the man who raped his mother, EJ will never see him, Chanel or their family ever again.
