The games are done, the feints are over. Stephanie came face to face with her kidnapper at the end of Friday’s Days of Our Lives, and it wasn’t Jeremy. It was Owen Kent! (But we all knew that, right?) In fact, Jeremy was in the process of rescuing his accuser when Owen appeared and now, it seems, all bets are off.

Everyone, from Marlena to Jada keeps reiterating that Stephanie’s stalker “loves” her in a twisted way, so he wouldn’t want to hurt her. They’ve been assuming it’s Jeremy, but the same, hopefully, goes for Owen. He took her to be with her, not kill her. Still, Owen is very clearly unwell, and now he’s got Jeremy on top of Stephanie. And Jeremy, we imagine, he’d have no problem killing.

When Wes Ramsey spoke with TV Insider, he admitted that when he was first asked to come back, he put a lot of thought into wondering how it would happen after 16 years. Then he got the script and his thinking went from the how, to the how far? As in, “How far can we go? How much fun can we have? How much is too much? Owen is a man who desperately wants to love and be loved and is lonely.”

Desperation is never a good sign for anyone, especially in daytime. Desperate characters go to desperate lengths — which we suppose we knew since Owen flat out kidnapped Stephanie! So we can only imagine that he’d be willing to kill to hold on to her and the twisted “love” that he has for her!

That puts Jeremy’s life in immediate danger, and anyone else who tries to rescue her — like Alex. Or Shawn! Remember seeing him get shot in the winter preview? And while Owen might not try to kill Stephanie directly, we all know that these types of showdowns often have a lot of collateral damage in Salem. And if anything goes too wrong, Stephanie could end up in the morgue just like anyone else.

But if everyone does come out of this OK (trauma notwithstanding), we feel like Owen’s a prime candidate to be shipped off to Bayview. He’s dangerous, but he’s also definitely unwell. You don’t become this fixated on someone if you’re in a healthy mental place. We can’t imagine Owen returning after this or sticking around long term… but this is Salem. There’s always the opportunity for a second chance, especially when it’s a matter of mental health.

How much is too much? Killing anyone would be, clearly. (Unless you’re Ben, or Xander or… OK, maybe not.) So we’ll just cross our fingers that everyone comes out of this alive and well.
