The square’s all set up for the wedding as Rafe checks in with Javi. Chad shows up to find Leo’s MIA. Marlena pulls him aside to say Leo was having a panic attack when she spoke to him earlier. Leo’s not answering the phone, Ari freaks out, Javi’s spiraling and… Leo waltzes in cheerfully.

Chad and Gwen catch up a bit, with her telling him how worried she was when he disappeared. Also, Jennifer’s being a “wretched, wretched woman” for trying to take his kids. Chad just seems amused and honestly, it’s tough to tell how sincere Gwen is. (Outside of loathing Jen, of course.)

More: The New Year’s Eve soap cancellations!

Marlena tells him they’re all relieved he’s there, and Leo (after some deflection about his time-consuming beauty routine) promises it’s all because of what she told him. And with a few more pleasantries, it’s time to get the wedding started!

Will Anything Stop the Wedding?

Marlena says a few words about how happy she is for Leo’s happiness, then dives into the ceremony while the wedding guests (packed full of extras!) smile happily up at the grooms. Nobody says a word when Marlena asks for objections, but Leo glares warily at Gwen until she gives him the thumbs up.

Ari and Gabi head up for a poem reading, as Gwen looks around nervously. She’s waiting for something! (Please, we all know for what. Or rather… who.) The ceremony keeps rolling on, though, through the, “I do’s, I wills” and “we do’s” and on into the vows.

More: A resurrection for the holidays?

Chad and Rafe hand the rings over as Gwen looks increasingly annoyed and impatient. There’s a few more traditions, some personal vows (didn’t they do this like twice already?) and the kiss! They’re married to applause! Well, applause from everyone but Gwen.

Alex Proposes to Stephanie

Alex and Stephanie stop each other from making out because again, Steve is in the apartment for New Year’s Eve. Kiss, rinse and repeat. But this time, Steve hurries out of the room when he sees them going at it, at least for a second or two.

He comes back out so all three can have a romantic New Year’s Eve dinner at the Bistro. (Guess they weaved through the wedding right outside the front door.) Kayla surprises them again, just like on Christmas, having ditched work again.

Oh, they did get a “glimpse” of the wedding! Stephanie mentions seeing it, so they all toast to the happy couple getting married a few feet away. Alex disappears, then comes back with a giant present wrapped in gold paper. And with a conveniently easy to open box lid. With another box inside. And another. And… she keeps going until she gets to the ring. It’s a New Year’s Eve proposal!

Steve and Kayla watch with giant grins (Actually, the whole Bistro’s watching and it’s actually pretty darn full of patrons. Nothing quite so awkward as public proposals…) as Stephanie reads the note, Alex gets down on one knee and she says yes! Kayla and Steve both knew about this of course.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Inside the Bistro before the wedding reception gets there (that place is gonna be packed), Steve, Kayla, Alex and Stephanie are all on cloud nine. Wedding planning will be tough, though, so they’ll settle for a long engagement. Honestly, that’s more refreshing than the usual soap “Let’s plan the wedding next week!”

More: Dimitri’s back, but Stefan died!

Javi and Leo sign their marriage certificate, but as Marlena says, they aren’t official until she files it with the court. Which she, conveniently, can’t do on New Year’s Day. Gwen waltzes over to offer her congratulations (definitely not sincere) and walks off. She watches the fellas kiss, sends a text — and Dimitri rushes by the grooms. Gwen’s nearly breathless with anticipation!
