Days of our Lives: EJ’s Harrowing Kidnap Ordeal Ignites Unexpected Romance with Cat?!

Days of Our Lives fans wonder what happens when EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) gets out of the crypt, recovers from the kidnapping. And how this may affect his thoughts about Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) and what he does next.
Days of our Lives: EJ The Top Suspect
So EJ is in the crypt with his siblings Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn), Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk). And his nephew Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews). They have all been debating and wondering who is the culprit behind the kidnapping. They all wondered if EJ might have been their kidnapper. So, when he turned up in the crypt as well, Chad really laid into EJ. Of course, he denied it to Chad and said he’s a victim of this kidnapping and being held hostage there, same as Tony and Kristen and everybody.
But Chad snapped and said that EJ is a victimizer, not a victim. And yes, sure, EJ’s done plenty of bad things, but it wasn’t too awful long ago that Chad was conspiring with Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) to frame EJ for Sami Brady’s (Alison Sweeney) kidnapping. Do you remember that? He figured it out and kept it quiet.

Sibling Rivalry and Past Betrayals on Days of Our Lives: Chad’s Hypocrisy Exposed
At the time also, if you remember, EJ thought he and Chad were in a good place as brothers, but Lucas had convinced Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) and also Chad to keep his dirty kidnapping secret. It turned out really bad for EJ. He spent time in prison for something he didn’t do while Lucas was romancing Sami. And Chad was in on all of it. Now, Chad didn’t help plan it, but he found out about it and then sat on it.
So, I don’t think Chad has got room to come at EJ like that since Chad essentially helped send EJ to prison. So, Chad’s being a big old hypocrite. Once Kristen wakes up from her feverish nap in the crypt, she’s also going to accuse EJ of snatching them. But at that point, it seems like Chad believes that EJ is innocent because Chad gets between them and breaks up Kristen and EJ’s physical altercation. So, all the siblings, Tony, Kristen, and Chad, and their nephew, Theo, likely come around to the perspective that EJ really has been kidnapped like they were and is not the kidnapping culprit.
A New Suspect Arrives: Peter Blake’s Return to Salem on Days
We know the crypt crew is going to get another family member on this terrible reunion. That’s going to be on Friday when recast Peter Blake (Dan Gauthier) arrives. He is now going to be played by the talented Dan Gauthier. So we’ll see Peter tossed in with them. I suspect he is the real kidnap culprit and has himself thrown in to throw suspicion off of him, basically like they accused EJ of doing.
We also know that Kristen, EJ, Tony, Chad, Theo, and Peter are all out of that mausoleum by Christmas. The fact that Peter’s the last to arrive and isn’t in there for that long is another red flag that he may be up to something. In the winter Days of Our Lives promo, Chad is reunited with his kids at the Horton House for Christmas, putting their ornaments on the tree. So that confirms that the crew in the crypt are either rescued or they find a way to escape.
The kidnapper has an armed guard posted outside who has fired warning shots at them. If Peter can help figure out a way to get out of there, that’s going to be another red flag that he is actually the culprit and not just another random kidnapper. EJ also revealed that he had had the crypt sealed because it had been used for bad deeds in the past. So the culprit obviously had it unsealed without anybody noticing.
Post-Kidnapping Romance: The Brewing Love Triangle Between EJ, Chad, and Cat on DOOL
They’re all going to be out by Christmas. I want to talk about where EJ and where Chad go from there and how Cat plays into it. If you recall, right before EJ was kidnapped, Cat deliberately triggered EJ’s memory by quoting Wuthering Heights. So, he recalls that he and Cat were at the same rehab hospital in Italy. And EJ told Cat that he thinks Clyde Weston (James Read) set it up. It’s no coincidence.
Then Cat drugged EJ so she could poke around the mansion. And Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) got upset at her risky little antics because she’s not a trained field agent. But also, Cat and EJ nearly kissed before his mom, Susan Banks, interrupted them. We also know from the Winter Days promo that Cat and EJ do kiss soon. There were Days of Our Lives press photos of Cat, EJ, and Chad together with nobody else, like their own little photo shoot, which was another hint at a love triangle.
I suspect all the DiMeras leave the crypt and that they are all changed by this kidnapping ordeal, including Chad and EJ. While stuck in the crypt, Chad has been frantic about his kids and the custody hearing. And EJ said he got a continuance. And Chad and EJ did a little bonding over issues with their sons, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and Thomas DiMera (Cary Christopher).

Chad’s Next Move on Days of Our Lives: Prioritizing Family and a Potential Exit from Salem
When Chad gets out of the crypt, he’s going to be all about the kids. He’ll stay away from Cat even though he really likes her. I can see a scenario where Chad offers a deal to Jennifer Horton and she drops the custody case. So, Chad may tell Jennifer, “Look, me and Thomas and Charlotte DiMera (Olivia & Oakley Rondou) will come with you and Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) to Boston for a while.”
That’ll give Thomas time to cool off about Cat. I mean, he’ll probably always dislike her, but the kid needs a timeout because a 10-year-old doesn’t get to tell his dad, “You have to make her move out of Salem.” That is an unreasonable ask. Chad doesn’t get to control who lives in town, no matter how they behaved. Jennifer either for that matter.
We know recast Chad, Connor Floyd, debuts in April and we know recast Thomas debuts at the same time. We also know there is a gap between Billy Flynn’s last air date and Connor Floyd’s first. So with Chad focused on the kids, he might move away and we don’t have him back for however long.
A Dangerous Liaison: Will Cat’s Secret Investigation Complicate Her Romance with EJ on DOOL?
Meanwhile, I think EJ is going to see a path to pursue Cat without violating the bro code. Of course, EJ’s got no idea Cat’s investigating him, but I suspect just his general hotness is going to tempt Cat to cross lines and get involved with him. I do like EJ and Cat’s chemistry, but Susan Banks senses something off about Cat. EJ may figure out that Cat’s an ISA agent and investigating him. And if so, what starts out as EJ romancing her might turn into him playing Cat to find out what she’s dug up. I do think EJ comes out of the crypt ready to act on this simmering chemistry between him and Cat. From there, she may start out playing EJ. But then find herself swept up in a romance.
He may get involved with Cat with good intentions, but then if EJ later finds out Cat is working with Rafe against him, everything may twist up and EJ may start playing her. Then when new Chad comes back in April, I think he’s going to be stunned if EJ and Cat are in a relationship by then. Of course, Cat and Chad ever getting together is problematic, unless there’s some bizarre twist where she really is Abigail Deveraux (AnnaLynne McCord) and had her memories tampered. But for now, I’m excited to see Cat and EJ get closer and to see the aftermath of this kidnapping.
