Days of our Lives: Sophia Choi’s Baby Adoption Lies Under Fire
This Tate Black (Leo Howard) and Melinda Trask (Tina Huang) baby drama looks like it’s about ready to come to a head. We’re going to talk about who is going to expose Sophia big baby scheme.
I do have to say I feel bad for Sophia. She never wanted this drama to start with. Tate and Sophia had planned to terminate the pregnancy, but her mom, Amy Choi (Shi Ne Nielson), put a quick stop to that.

Then Sophia found her life hijacked as her controlling mom took over and was kind of unsympathetic. It crushed her college dreams and her life plans. When Tate and Sophia found a solid adoptive couple, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens), EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) blew that up by being a creep and alienating Amy.
Then Johnny blew it up because he found out his dimpled daddy was an even bigger creep than he knew. He had raped his mom, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney). All that led to Sophia Choi being in the middle of an elaborate scheme that she and Melinda orchestrated. Meanwhile, Tate is grieving the fact that he never got to meet their baby. Worst of all, Sophia’s baby is right there in Salem with many eyes on him.
Baby Tesoro in Salem: Rafe Hernandez, Javi, and Leo Stark Step In
Amy already felt a pull towards little Tesoro the first time she met him, and then the second time as well. Of course, the baby is being fostered by Javi Hernandez (Al Calderon) and Leo (Leo Stark).
Amy just told Javi that Tesoro reminds her of her son when he was an infant. Sophia looked like she was about to pass out at the table when her mom said that and kind of dragged her away. So there’s that.
Then Tate is actively searching for answers and closure. It’s only a matter of time before Sophia Choi and Melinda are exposed for their lies. But who’s going to crack the case of the faux adoption? Who will out the lies now?
Sophia Choi & Melinda Trask: A History of Shady Schemes on DOOL
I know Sophia needed some sympathy, but she made a big mistake teaming up with Melinda. Melinda’s last fake adoption scheme blew up in Sloan Petersen’s (Jessica Serfaty) face. She had to run out of town before she was locked up. Melinda barely escaped prison and losing her law license, but she had leverage on EJ to scrape by.
This time though, it might be different. Sophi and Melinda could face serious consequences. I think the lady lawyer may actually face the brunt of the backlash because she definitely knows better. Sophia was a scared teen left scrambling after giving birth alone. She just didn’t know where to turn.
Consequences Loom for Sophia & Melinda: Will Justice Catch Up?
You know, kids that age don’t always make the best decisions. Ideally, Sophia should have kept calling Tate until she reached him and said that she was in labor. She should have dialed 911 and gone to University Hospital for labor and delivery — or at least after she went through labor and delivery at home alone.
But no, instead Sophia decided to drop their baby boy off in the safe haven box at the Salem Fire Department. Then she called Melinda for help. That was a colossal mistake. Both of those decisions were colossal mistakes if you think about it. There were better things she could have done.
Fake Pregnancy, Fraudulent Papers, and the DOOL Paper Trail
Now Sophia is caught up in this phony baloney adoption mess with Melinda, who is sketchy as heck — even though she has the best intentions in this case. Not only did Melinda give Sophia a very convincing fake pregnancy belly, but she also wrote up fraudulent adoption papers for a baby girl. She set up that Chicago postbox for the fake parents to receive mail from baby daddy Tate.
The Lies Unravel: Sarah Horton’s Confession and Sophia’s Guilt
All of that means there’s a big paper trail that could come back to bite Melinda and Sophia. The lies are unraveling rapidly. Plus, Sophia’s guilt continues to eat at her. When Doctor Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) confronted her, Sophia came clean. Doctor-patient confidentiality is forcing Sarah’s silence, at least for now on Days of Our Lives.
Both Amy and Tate saw newborn Tesoro with Leo and Javi, and they had strong reactions. Both of them have had chances to interact with little T. Of course, poor Tate also has no idea that Javi and Leo’s little foster baby — the one he held in the Brady pub, I think — is his newborn son.
Days of Our Lives: Tender Moments – Tate Black’s Heartbreak Over the Lost Baby
That tender moment with Tate and the baby really brought tears to my eyes. But it also made me so livid at Melinda. I tend to blame her more than Sophia, who is scared and scrambling. Sophia was dealing with pregnancy hormones and went through a terrible ordeal of labor and delivery at home alone. I had doctors and nurses, and it was still an ordeal. I can’t imagine popping a baby out at home in my bedroom. There’s also the postpartum stuff. She’s gone through a really hard time.
Leo, Javi & the Letter: Uncovering the Truth in Salem
Before Leo got sequestered for jury duty, he and Javi read the letter that Sophia sent to the firehouse for Tesoro. Both Javi and Leo could feel the emotions behind the words that Sophia wrote for her baby boy, not knowing that Sophia was the one writing it.
Javi and Leo have wondered who the poor baby mama was that felt like she had no choice but to walk away from her child. Now Javi is doing the math, and he is starting to have an inkling that Tesoro could be Sophia baby. However, as Javi told Rafe Hernandez, the timing is off.
That’s part of why Melinda set this up. Nobody suspects Sophia was wearing a fake pregnancy belly for a couple of weeks. Sophia took advantage of Tate plans to meet Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) at the lake to stage the Chicago part of their adoption scam.
With Tate pushing Sophia on the adoptive parents and Javi questioning Tesoro’s origins, the gig may all be up soon. There is also a chance that Sarah may accidentally let something slip to Brady Black (Eric Martsolf). She’s not technically supposed to say anything unless somebody’s in danger.
Sarah may try to rationalize it — that Tate’s mental health could be in jeopardy as he’s mourning the baby daughter that doesn’t even exist. Sarah knows how hurt Tate is over this from her talks with Brady Black.
Sophia’s Regrets and Drama with Ari Horton and Holly Jonas on Days of Our Lives
Despite basically stealing his baby without consent and tricking him into signing adoption papers that are fake anyway, Sophia recently complained to Arianna “Ari” Grace Horton (Marissa Reyes) that things didn’t happen the way she expected. You know, she still went to Tate, and it’s just not working out. I hate to break it to you, Sophia, but you created this mess.
Sophia had been dangling sex in Tate’s face to lure him away from Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis). She clearly wasn’t on proper birth control. When you do the deed, you’re taking risks. I do get Sophia’s panic about Tate changing his mind and wanting to keep the baby, throwing off all the college plans. But it just doesn’t justify everything that has been done.
Who Will Expose Sophia Choi and Melinda Trask on DOOL?
So the big question is: who unravels Sophia and Melinda’s baby lies? Javi has got an inkling. Rafe is an investigator with the FBI. He could probably search hospital records and find out Sophia did not give birth in Chicago. Then again, Sarah could spill the beans and Brady might not be able to help himself.
He may go confront Melinda, who he hates. If you recall, Sophia was worried somebody would recognize that the baby abandoned at the fire station is half Asian. That is part of what Javi was noticing.
Are Sophia’s lies going to be exposed soon? Does she deserve legal consequences, or should she get a get-out-of-jail-free card because she’s young and dumb? Melinda probably won’t get any grace from anybody. Unless she’s got blackmail to leverage her way out, this may be what takes her down.
